so, aside from some af3 pieces, DRG has been put to bed in spirit. there are only two pieces i would like for it from abyssea. lancer's torque and skogul lance. the rest of my prioreties belong to nin, ranger and pup.
throughout all these updates, ranger has seemed to evolve the least. new powers while welcome, are not really groundbreaking. unless you concider what magian trials have done for them, which is making all the hard to obtain gear ranger needed before, lower priorety and easier to achieve. the need for salvage znm scnm most relic, and some sky gear has all been replaced with a few pieces. bringing everything to a nice even state.
not every job has been effected this same way, but the most abusive pieces (salvage) are not all created equal. the hardest piece of skadi, atleast for my ranger, has been replaced by the new loki's kaftan, which drops from turul, a huge dragon/bird~thing. by comparison, it's MILES easier than trudging through remnants zones for pieces of an armor, then paying millions to have it crafted into a fairly unimpressive piece. also it's a jerkin model, and if anyone has seen me and knows of my kyudo-gi, you know how much i love them.
so besides the gear, the weapons are incredible, on par or beating relics with relatively little to no effort required in comparison. the bases are free, and the final upgrades are cheap ~ ish if you choose to buy your required items. the difference for ranger is that while other weapons are groundbreaking and completely changing the ways people deal damage, this is simply a linear step for us... which feels slightly boring.
the OAT option is nice ,if less impressive. while the empyrean option is flashy, yet uninspiring. it may be that because of ranger's unique play style, it set's us apart from the other jobs as we all creep toward the end. the main changes so far have been through subjob upgrades thus far, and the minimal changes to the main job seem dull (camouflage's -enmity, double-shot)
in the coming months we'll finally be hitting level 90, and i hope with that increase, we will see the game changing updates for rng. the empyrean weapon skills have changed some jobs permanently if attained, dealing damage well above where ranger was the lone wolf, and surpassing us in most normal areas. (dot/spike dmg) and now that the playing field is even, we will have to fight desperately to stay on top with the sam's drk's and drg's.
